London Gateway is set to become the premier logistics centre in the United Kingdom and Europe’s largest logistics park. It will also be Britain’s most environmentally friendly major port, offering a more cost effective, greener way of getting goods to UK consumers. The port is scheduled to open in late 2013 with an initial capacity of 1.6 million TEU (TEU is one standard 20-ft container).
Once complete, the new port and park facility will save UK businesses millions of pounds a year in land transport costs. An estimated 65 million road freight miles every year will be saved as many goods will no longer need to be transported from deepsea ports to inland distribution centers. Instead, goods will be sent straight into the new London Gateway Logistics Park and then directly to shops and homes.
Cargotec provides 28 Kalmar shuttle carriers and 40 Kalmar automatic stacking cranes with related technology to be used in the port.
Prohoc’s Scope in London Gateway project includes supporting Cargotec's erection activities for the automatic stacking cranes, by providing commissioning services within electrical and automation disciplines.
